This is in a beautiful Facebook post by Rachele Focardi Alexieva @Rachele79 regarding the crisis in Italy:

“A China Eastern Airline Airbus A350 arriving from Shanghai landed in Rome this morning carrying a team of 9 doctors experts in Covid19 and much needed supplies including 1000 ventilators, 100,000 masks, 20,000 protective gear, 50,000 testkits. These wonderful people who survived and fended the horrible epidemic in their country, flew thousands of miles to jump straight into another storm.”

But as I sit in my office, I’m reminded I also have friends who insist China needs to be put in “its proper place in the world” as China is “using predatory economics to intimidate its neighbors”; China is on the prowl “to shape a world consistent with their authoritarian model”; China seeks to gain “veto authority over other nations’ economic, diplomatic, and security decisions”.

Maybe China is all that. But it’s also made up of just ordinary people helping others because they’ve been there themselves.

Perhaps later, we should all remember to ask, In the great 2020 novel coronavirus crisis, which wolf did you feed?
